Actually we have outgrown our need for a supernatural "father". All religions are a form of altruism (as is Communism, etc.) -- Man can not subordinate himself to a supernatural being or to a government or any other entity if he is to properly participate his "evolutionary" process--he must protect his ego to realize his full potential as a rational, creative human being and protect the right of all individuals to pursue happiness in their own way.
The greatest "ordinal sin" is self-inflicted ignorance. The greatest "cardinal sin" is self-sacrifice (destruction of the ego; spiritual suicide).
